1651 takes it’s name from the important and penultimate battle of the English Civil War, fought in Upton on 28th August 1651.
A detachment of Cromwell’s New Model Army made a surprise attack & defeated Royalists who were defending Upton’s strategic river crossing.
So important was the battle that Cromwell visited Upton before his army marched to Worcester where they defeated the Royalist forces
to win the Civil War

Thomas Bound, a grim and covetous man, from an old Upton family, a puritan in religion and politics, was a supporter of Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War.
Married three times, Bound disposed of his first two wives and forged the will of his third,
in his favour, whilst she lay on her deathbed, Bound took his own life by drowning in Causeway Pool & his ghost has haunted the
Upton area to this day.
Perry pear varieties such as Hellens Early, Blakeney Red and Thorn are hand-picked then pressed and slowly fermented to create a crisp, light perry.
